over perfection.”
MY MISSION & PHILOSOPHY
I’m a Christian, wife, mom, nana, and a leader.
Life has thrown me curveballs here and there, but I am stronger because of the challenges. Adversity helps build character and strength, as well as reminding you to rely on those most important to you. When I was younger and going through challenges, I would pray for God to stop the challenge.
Now that I’m older and wiser, I realize it’s those challenges that have made me the person that I am today. God wants to use me, imperfect and all, just the way I am to help others. It’s not being perfect that makes people want to listen to you - it’s about honest connection. Being able to connect and express where you’ve been and that you made it to the other side successfully empowers those we lead to strive for that same success with imperfect authenticity!
Most of my career has been spent in the accounting and human resources industry with almost 20 years in leadership roles. I’ve led small teams and large teams. I’ve created teams and I’ve inherited teams. None of it was easy because everyone communicates differently.
It takes effort on the part of the leader to get to know each member of their team, to learn their communication style, and what works best for each person. Here’s what I have found to be true for everyone…clearly defined expectations matter, holding people accountable matters, and so does showing appreciation!
It goes both ways though. Not only do you need clearly defined expectations for each team member, but you also need to understand their expectations of you, and they should clearly define them. I believe most misunderstandings happen because expectations aren’t being met and they’re not being met because they weren’t clearly defined by both parties.
Same is true for accountability. Clearly define what each team member will be held accountable for regarding being evaluated and evaluate often! Let them hold you accountable and evaluate you, too. If you’re meeting or exceeding expectations, being evaluated isn’t a scary process.
Common sense tells you to say thank you, but sometimes thank you isn’t enough. Learn how each team member wants to be appreciated and say thank you the way they want to “hear” it!
I owe a great deal to my life coach, Viviana Brake. She has been amazing to work with and grow with for the last six years. She has encouraged me every step of the way and I check in with her often for accountability and continued success. Now it is time for me to help YOU step into true leadership. To identify what is most important to you and the people you lead, to coach you on best practices as a leader, and help you build a team that will exceed all expectations!
You are the future of leadership - let’s get started.
