1:1 or Group Coaching
When I was first promoted into a leadership position, I was promoted because I was good at my “job.” My “job” was task-oriented and detail-oriented, and not even close to being people-oriented! How often do you see that happen? Someone is good at their “job,” so they get promoted to a leadership position and they are in no way prepared to handle THAT kind of job … at least not yet! This is now my passion! I hated that feeling of being inadequate when I had been excelling just the day before and I had no one in my corner cheering me on. My colleagues, my friends, were now my direct reports and they knew I didn’t know what I was doing. I was terrible at the people part, just ask any of my direct reports! And my organization didn’t send me for any training, it wasn’t a priority back then. I fumbled around and I messed up, a lot!
So, I started reading books on leadership and eventually went back to school to earn my master’s degree in business administration, which gave me a more well-rounded understanding of how to lead an organization and a team. Ultimately, it’s up to you to take responsibility for your growth. If you want to get better at something, YOU must do something about it.
I want to be the cheerleader and encourager for the new leaders, or those that want to be leaders in the future. I want YOU to look like an expert right from the start. Why not be prepared before you get the promotion? Why not be proactive and ask for training or coaching as soon as you are promoted? Top executives, those making a positive difference in their organizations, have coaches! Why not you? Top executives work with executive coaches on a regular basis. It’s critical to their personal success and their companies’ success.
I want to help you grow from where you are to where you need to be. I want to help you set expectations for yourself and your team.
